Bacteria Cellulose

We know that cellulose is abundant materials that available on this world and needed by mostly creature to life. Cellulose recognized as the major component of plant biomass, but also a representative of microbial extracellular polymers. Bacterial cellulose belongs to specific products of primary metabolism and is mainly a protective coating, whereas plant cellulose plays a structural role.

Cellulose can be synthesized by bacterial aid, Cellulose is synthesized by bacteria belonging to the genera Acetobacter, Rhizobium, Agrobacterium, and Sarcina. Its most efficient producers are Gram-negative, acetic acid bacteria Acetobacter xylinum, which have been applied as model microorganisms for basic and applied studies on cellulose. One of the most important features of Bacteria Cellulose is its chemical purity, which distinguishes this cellulose from plants, usually associated with hemicelluloses and lignin removal which is inherently difficult.

This bacteria is being applied in paper, textile and food industries and as a biomaterial cosmetics and medicine. Although synthesis of an extracellular gelatinous mat by A. xylinum was founded first time in 1886, bacteria cellulose more attention until the second half of 20th century. The side product of cellulose synthesized by this bacteria are lyophilized Acetobacter cells synthesized cellulose in the presence of glucose and oxygen.

After that founding then merge of milestone study result of bacteria cellulose synthesis, presented and review, contributed to the elucidation of mechanisms governing not only the biogenesis of the bacterial polymer, but also that of plants, that are drawing of the most important role of bacteria cellulose processes in nature.
